Governing bodies


The Academy has the following governing bodies:

  • The Permanent Secretary;
  • The Chancellor;
  • The Director of Sessions;
  • The Council of the Academy;
  • The Work Committee;
  • The Scientific Colleges.

The Permanent Secretary is appointed by His Majesty the King. He carries out and authorizes all academy-related acts and deeds, and represents the Academy vis-à-vis of the State, the public and private agencies, or any other third parties. He performs any act of preservation and represents the Academy in court; he ensures the management of all departments and services and appoints his staff except for the general accountant.

He is the Academy’s paymaster. He ensures that the minutes of sessions are prepared and kept on record. He may delegate some of his prerogatives to the Chancellor.

The Chancellor is appointed by His Majesty the King. He assists the Permanent Secretary in discharging his mission, mainly in what concerns contacts with the associate and the corresponding members, and acts as his deputy in case of absence or impediment.

The Academy Council assists the Permanent Secretary in his mission and takes all the required measures for the furtherance of the mission of the Academy. The Academy Council adopts the Academy’s budget and its annual accounts and prepares the personnel statutes.

The work Committee coordinates the work of the Academy’s members and colleges, selects topics to be addressed, calls for papers and secures through the Academy’s relevant bodies the dissemination of the Academy’s proceedings.

The Academy includes the following colleges:

  • Life science (biology, medicine, pharmacy, nutrition, veterinary, agriculture, biotechnology)
  • Science and techniques of environmental, sea and earth (climatology, mineralogy, oceanology, geology, ecology, hydrology, halieutic resources and fisheries,..)
  • Physics and chemistry (theoretical physics, statistical physics, astronomy and astrophysics, mechanics, optics and photonics, materials and nanotechnologies, organic and inorganic chemistry, natural substances, chemical engineering, process engineering,..)
  • Modeling and science of information (mathematics, science and techniques of information, communication, computer science,…)
  • Engineering, transfer and technological innovation (civil engineering, electrical engineering, energy, electronics, innovation, valorization of research results,.. )
  • Strategic studies, development and economics (econometric, advanced strategic studies, demography and population studies, …)
